Step beyond the lodge and discover the tranquil side of Kibale on Guereza Canopy Lodge’s private nature trail. Set along the edge of Kibale National Park, the trail offers guests an opportunity to experience the forest at a slower pace, surrounded by tropical vegetation, towering trees and the rich sounds of the canopy.

The trail has two sections, allowing guests to choose an experience that suits their time and level of activity. The shorter route takes approximately one to two hours and is ideal for a relaxed morning, afternoon and evening walk. For guests who would like to spend more time exploring the forest environment, the longer section takes approximately two to ten hours, providing a deeper and more immersive nature experience.

Along the way, there are opportunities to observe some of the wildlife associated with the Kibale landscape. Colourful forest birds, including the great blue Turaco, Green-breasted Pitta, parrots, Ross’s Turaco, Crowned Sunbirds and Eagles may be seen moving through the trees, while different monkey species are regularly encountered in the surrounding forest. Chimpanzees may occasionally be heard or spotted, and signs of larger forest animals can sometimes be encountered. Elephants also occur within the wider Kibale ecosystem, although sightings are uncommon and should be considered a special encounter rather than an expectation. Along the trail you will also experience the reforestation project, stream restoration projects and beekeeping activities. 

The trail is an opportunity to appreciate nature itself; its sounds, changing light, vegetation and remarkable biodiversity.
